LHC Tested
Large Hadron Collider successfully switched on
The first beam in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN was successfully
steered around the full 27 kilometres of the world’s most powerful
particle accelerator yesterday.
In view of the opening of LHC, ICTP has been running a programme for the
benefit of students, postdoctoral researchers and associate members,
focusing on the ATLAS section of LHC. The programme is coordinated by
Bobby Acharya of the ICTP High Energy Section, in collaboration with
Marina Cobal of the INFN Gruppo Collegato di Udine and University of
Udine, Italy. (See News from ICTP, No. 121-124, pages 54-56.)
