Some notes specific to the ICTP installation

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office applications can be run directly within Linux. You can find them in the ICTP  and Microsoft Office groups of the start menu.

• Startup can be slow.
  
• Currently the Help function does not work.  Please use the web-based help instead.
• To access your Linux Desktop in the File Save/Open dialogs etc., first choose Desktop and therein the item My Linux Desktop
• Don't try to use the Get updates functionality provided within Office, it won't work..
  

Skype and other audio tools

Please make sure that the Front Mic is selected in the Audio Device Setup and make a test call to verify that it works.

QtOctave

When running QtOctave you might see a recurring error message regarding variables. To get rid of it, close the variable list pane in the upper left part of the QtOctave window.
